By “Christian” we mean that Jesus of Nazareth, the man born of the Virgin Mary, is also fully God. He is God incarnate, Immanuel, God with us. He is Israel’s Messiah, the anointed one, the Christ. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. In Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. As one possessed of full humanity and undiminished deity, Jesus is worthy of all worship. Jesus is the eternal Son of God the Father and the Everlasting Man.
Jesus’ death on the cross 2,000 years ago removes our guilt as sinners and reconciles us with God the Father. Jesus’ bodily resurrection from the grave shows that God the Father was pleased with Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross and that our faith in Jesus is not vain. Jesus is the living God-Man sitting at the right hand of God the Father in heaven. From that place He intercedes for Christians as their great High Priest. Jesus is the Great Shepherd of his flock. The Church is Christ’s body, united and identified with Him in his death and resurrection.
We worship God the Father, through His Son, in the Holy Spirit, one God in three persons, the Blessed Trinity.
